The 250-page Practice Manual was published in British Columbia, Canada at the end of 2004 by the Architectural Institute of BC, the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC, the Consulting Engineers of BC and the BC Construction Association, which, together with the Public Construction Council (BC) form the BC Building Projects Committee.

The organizations that are members or supporters of the BC Committee fulfill essential responsibilities and/or serve crucial interests affecting projects in the BC building industry. The Manual, while depending on the management guidance in publications of these and other organizations, covers management of building-projects as a whole, and how this interacts with the many varied pieces and stages. It emphasizes:

  • Leading projects right from the start – directing as well as managing.
  • Effective teamwork and decision-making – Owner, Design Manager and Builder.
  • Who is in charge – of the big picture and each of its parts.
  • Avoidance or solution of problems, uncertainties and disputes, early and at source, – with a “right first-time” attitude to quality, lasting through planning, design and construction.
