Context for Using
the Practice Manual
In order to use this
Manual for specific projects, managers and others experienced
in building-projects have to customize the practices presented.
Practices obviously differ between a warehouse and a complex hospital
facility, for example. The ways in which the Manual is applied
therefore remain at the discretion of its users.
While the Manual strives
to present good management practice, the Committee, the Task Force
and their respective members recognize that experienced and prudent
practitioners may adopt practices that are different from those
presented in the Manual. Following the practices presented will
not ensure success in specific situations, and not following the
practices presented, in specific situations, may be consistent
with prudent standard practice. Users are reminded that in all
cases where specific regulatory authority exists over a particular
practice area, the legislation, regulations and guidelines of
that authority shall govern if there is any conflict with the
Manual.
The Manual presents
many practices, but also relies on authoritative primary references
(e.g., in its Appendix E). The current version of each reference
has to be read for many details. The references may differ from
each other or from the Manual. Users should give more weight to
a reference in its area of expertise or authority.
